What a weekend. I was still sick and am still not 100 percent but I think I am finally starting to heal.
What a hoot... 13 and 14 year old's running around with a scary mask and chocolate mustaches. Ethan wore a silly straw hat and the kids swam for hours.
While it is very clear, on a daily basis that Ethan is maturing into a fine young man...he sure can be funny and silly with the best of em'. This past week the kids have been testing in school and the bulk of Ethan's thoughts have been on getting into honors English and honors Science for freshman year. It did this Mama's heart good to see him run around and be silly...be a kid. Which he is, but these children have to think about their futures already and that just makes his childhood so much more fragile to me.
My oldest is going to be a freshman in high school next year. His grades will go on his permanent record, decisions become harder, more choices to make about his path in this life, he will start driving, he will graduate. You see where I am going with this. My baby is no longer my baby, and that is ok because I know God has big plans for this young man, but most days it doesn't make it easier to take. So Sunday he goofed off and acted like a kid and had a blast with his buddies. We had a tornado watch, and it kept some friends from being able to attend, but we enjoyed all the friends that were able to make it. We celebrated Ethan and loved him up.
E wanted red Solo cups, a lot of junk food ( this coming from a kid who eats mostly organic, I was happy to oblige), a coca cola cake from Cracker Barrel and a silly hat...not to demanding for a 14 year old. I just thought the mustaches would be so fun and Ethan agreed.
Here is to 14 year old dreams, a fine young man and good friends celebrating one of God's special gifts, and one of my precious wishes. Thank You Ethan for being such an awesome and fun Son. I love and cherish you so very much.
Thanks to all who came out and celebrated Ethan with us. It was a wonderful day even if it was storming outside. A beautiful rainbow lead us home after the party...a lovely way to end our special day.
I am linking up with Laura over at her lovely blog Bits of Splendor...Hope you will stop by and share about your weekend and show her some love.
