I was so excited when I received the invitation to review this book.
It has been a while since I sat down and poured myself into a good read.
This book did not disappoint.
Choices and Illusions
is a book that opens your eyes to new possibilities,
new perspectives
with each page you turn.
You know those books that meet you right where
you are... and slowly create a path
that you want to keep following until it takes you where you need to be?
This book was like that for me.
Let me tell you a little about the author.
Eldon Taylor
is a New York Times best-selling author and is considered to be an
expert in the field of subconscious learning. He has made a lifelong
study of the human mind and has earned doctoral degrees in psychology
and metaphysics. He is a Fellow with the American Psychotherapy
Association (APA) and a nondenominational minister. Eldon has served as
an expert witness in court cases involving hypnosis and subliminal
communication.
Eldon was a practicing criminalist for over ten years specializing in lie detection and forensic hypnosis. Today he is president and director of Progressive Awareness Research, Inc. Since 1984 his books, audio programs, lectures, radio and television appearances have approached personal empowerment from the cornerstone perspective of forgiveness, gratitude, self-responsibility and service.
This book could not have come at a better time as I have
been struggling with some things
lately, big things...
emotionally and physically.
This book
was so encouraging and uplifting.
"We can change our minds...our beliefs".
Sometimes you just need to be reminded of that.
As a Social Worker
I knew these things,
But to read Mr. Taylor's words
It was like opening a jar of new possibilities.
Being a Mom to 3,
I am always thinking about how I can help
my children grow.
How I can encourage them
to be the best versions of themselves.
Not only do I need to
protect my children's perspective
from what society says to them and about them,
but
more importantly,
I need to protect them from
what they are saying internally about themselves!
I lift up my children daily and I want to help them realize
their full potential and worth in all situations.
This book offers amazing examples of self talk
and stories to help you understand how
important this is.
Here are some excerpts from the book
that I simply loved!
“I can’t wait to see what good happens from this.”
I love this quote from Eldon.
In every experience say it...this is an amazing response.
When something bad happens, this is not my general response,
but it can be, I would like it to be.
This next bit of the book hit me so hard because it is something
I am facing right now being in the middle of menopause...
and I do believe my cortisol levels are off the charts.
Eldon states,
"I choose to look at the world as providing everything I need
right now. I choose to think that everything that comes to me does
so for some good. Finding that good might not always be so easy,
but thinking this way transforms the poison that might otherwise
accumulate in my body, such as cortisol. Cortisol is a chemical
stored in the body as a result of stress. Anger and fear, blame and
shame are stressors that generate this chemical. Cortisol kills, literally.
It has been linked to early aging and various diseases, as well
as brain degeneration. It is not something any rational person really
wants to create, let alone save".
“You have powers you never dreamed of. You can do things
you never thought you could. There are no limitations in
what you can do except the limitations of your own mind.”
— Da r w i n P. K i n g s l e y
Eldon goes on to say,
"It is amazing what a little unconditional love can do. We are
all capable of coaching or cheering on our friends and family, but
when it comes to strangers, particularly those we think of as rude,
it is often another matter. It doesn’t have to be. This is just another
way to do good deeds".
And I started thinking about how difficult it is
to cheer ourselves on in most cases.
At times we are our own worst enemy., when we
really should be our own biggest cheerleader and encourager.
I talk a lot about service. It is
a subject that is near to my heart.
I think it is one reason I chose Social Work as a profession.
Eldon quotes Wayne Dyer...
purpose is not about vocation—
it’s about service!
I love that Eldon uses this quote,
It is so true.
The author, Su Dongpo, a very
famous Chinese writer, says it this way:
“We do not work or search for food but for truth.”
As President Woodrow Wilson stated over
1,000 years later:
You are not here merely to make a living. You are
here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with
greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement.
You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish
yourself if you forget this errand.
I love that!!
In this book you will find that
It is our inner talk that holds us back,
that keeps us from taking chances,
from believing that our most wildest dreams can come true,
that our goals can be reached,
that we can choose to do things differently,
and not let society tell us how to react to situations,
or how to feel about ourselves,
that we are enough,
And we are enough!
These affirmations are from Eldon's book...
Affirmations for Unlimited Personal Power
I accept myself.
I accept my creation as a miracle.
I am a miracle.
I am created perfectly.
I accept the perfection.
I accept the gift.
I accept the power.

I am an example.
I can do anything.

I really can't say enough about this book.

and words that take hold of your heart,
and
makes you want to do better,
be better.
